I went and saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico last night.
If you liked Desperado (and, with Quentin Tarantino getting shot in the head, how couldn't you?) then don't see this movie.
If you didn't like, or haven't seen, Desperado, then you're stupid. Go see this movie. Anyone who doesn't like Desperado deserves to have this steaming pile of shit inflicted on them.
As you might be able to guess, I didn't like the movie. It had none of the black humour in the first, and despite the director's best efforts none of the emotional drive for revenge (even though the reason was greater).
The movie just felt like a bunch of action sequences strung together, tenuously strung together, and every bad guy gets their comeuppance (usually in the head, which just goes to show you how good a pistolero is when he can cap someone at range with a shotgun that only makes a single entry wound). In other words, its stereotypical Hollywod action fare.
The thing is, the original movie was good because it wasn't your typical Hollywood trash. It was quirky, and different. It was likeable (enough for me to have bought the DVD earlier in the week, not realising that this steaming pile of poo was opening).
